Sony Join TV Scrappage Scheme

Electrical manufacturer Sony has announced plans to join a new TV scrappage scheme. The initiative by Sony will gives customers the option to trade in their old television set for a newer, flat screen model.

Revealing their plans, Sony said that the incentive would allow participants to get up to a £150 discount on any new Bravia flat-screen TV. The news comes at a particularly paramount time, after Sony revealed that their brand new Playstation 3 Slim due to be released next month, comes with an integrated Bravia TV sync feature.

Explaining the new scheme Sony UK’s general marketing manager Matt Coombe said “The campaign offers customers the advantages of swapping old for new rather than simply throwing away – encouraging old televisions to be responsibly disposed of. Another important element of this campaign is the reassurance for our customers that Sony will help them through the digital switchover, we understand that peace of mind is currently high on priority lists at this difficult economic time.”

Signing up ageing rock star Alice Cooper to star in a number of television adverts, Sony has created a large advertising plan for the incentive. The ageing rocker will advise viewers that chucking TV’s out of windows is old news and that they should instead head to a participating store and exchange their set for a new, gleaming one.

Current outlets to have joined the incentive are John Lewis, Comet, and Marks & Spencer in addition to all Sony Centre outlets.
