Cyber War Concerns Now Widespread

A report by online security firm McAfee has stated that the possibilities of a cyber war have now moved from fiction to fact, with many more countries across the world beginning to take steps to protect themselves from a possible attack. Making a recent analysis of attacks based on the internet, they explained that the majority of attacks were politically based and whilst the guidelines for what constituted a cyber war were unclear, nations spanning the globe were already taking necessary steps to protect themselves.

McAfee Europe’s primary analyst Greg Day said “There are at least five countries known to be arming themselves for this kind of conflict.” Whilst North Korea, China, France, Germany and the UK are all known to be developing resistance procedures, it is well known that the US already have regulations governing where and when it can use cyber warfare tactics. Known to have used a combined cyber and troop plan in the recent Iraq war, the US also uses their capabilities in cyber systems to regulate the internet at home too.

Mr Day went on to explain that the future of cyber attacks seems more than likely due to the ease in which all the tools needed can be obtained. “To go to physical war requires billions of dollars. To go to cyber war most people can easily find the resources that could be used in these kind of attacks,” he explained.
