Google has launched a new tool aimed at making the life of its users simpler. Google Dashboard is their latest tool, bringing together user’s information and data from across a range of Google services to allow for better management and organisation. Displaying services in a simpler fashion, Google explained that it was aimed to give users better clarity over the services that they used. “We think of this as a great step towards giving people transparency and control over their data, and we hope this helps shape the way the industry thinks about these issues,” explained Google’s software engineer on privacy and safety Alma Whitten. “It’s important for people to be aware of what data they have online and to be able to manage that data- Google Dashboard should help to make this a reality,” she added.
With rising concerns over how much personal data individuals upload to the internet through profiles and services, Google hopes that their latest product will help consumers see just how much confidential information is being left around for anyone to see. In a release statement by the company they explained “In Gmail, your sent and received emails and email drafts, attachments and chat messages can all be saved. Our Web History feature saves your online search history if you choose to turn it on, and helps provide more personalized search results. The Dashboard brings together this data in one, easy-to-manage format, giving you an unprecedented level of visibility and control over that data.”
