Simon Aldous, one of Microsoft’s group managers has openly said in an article that in the development of Windows 7 they tried to “create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics.” With the two company’s bitter rivals, the controversial words have certainly left Microsoft looking more than a little amateur.
However, though neither has made a statement, it is apparent that many of the changes in Windows 7, particularly graphical, do share analogues with the OS X found in Macs. In an interview with PCR, Mr Aldous said “One of the things that people say an awful lot about the Apple Mac is that the OS is fantastic, that it’s very graphical and easy to use. What we’ve tried to do with Windows 7 – whether it’s traditional format or in a touch format – is create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics. We’ve significantly improved the graphical user interface, but it’s built on that very stable core Vista technology, which is far more stable than the current Mac platform, for instance.”
Upon hearing the statement, Brandon LeBlanc of Microsoft was quick to express that Mr Aldous in fact had not been part of the Windows 7 development in any way. Writing on his blog he explained that any comments that had been made were “inaccurate and uninformed.” He added that “Unfortunately this came from a Microsoft employee who was not involved in any aspect of designing Windows 7.”
