Acer, the ever popular computer manufacturer, has revealed a range of laptops specifically created with the environment in mind. The ‘green’ laptops, named the Timeline series, use a number of innovative features to be environmentally friendly and Acer boasts that they are the most energy efficient machines on the market.
The ultra thin Aspire 3811TZ / TSG models are manufactured free of both brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and PVC, instantly making them more environmentally friendly than many other products available. Meanwhile, featuring a 40per cent reduction on the energy that they use, the machines are fully recyclable and have thus been Greenpeace approved.
Acer have worked very carefully on developing a line of machines whose energy consumption is very efficient, not only meaning longer battery lives, but less time charging and therefore less impact on the environment. Using thin LED backlight LCD panels, and making processers that use very low voltage are just two of the ways that energy consumption has been reduced and therefore battery life increased to up to eight hours.
Industry experts, whilst not having access to the full specifications of the new machines, predict them to be very similar to that of Acer’s 3810 series. Therefore the new, greener machines, are likely to feature Intel GS45 Express Chipsets, 13.3inch displays with 1366 x 768 resolution, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM and possible Wi-Fi access, Gigabit LAN and HDMI output.
