A small start-up company based in India’s tech district of Hyderabad may have produced a tablet computer that could rival world dominator Apple. Described as an “iPad for the masses” the device called Adam has been developed by Notion Ink and has already found widespread support on blogs around the world.
Notion Ink, a company set up by three technical university graduates, produced the Adam with a range of features, including the ability to switch between colour and black and white screens, the latter allowing for screen readability even in full sunlit glare. Whilst the company admit that they would need epic support to even come close to becoming a real threat to Apple, the product could see India’s hold in the consumer electronics market grow. Speaking of the comparison between the iPad and the Adam, one of the Notion Ink’s founders Sachin Ralhan said “Adam and iPad are based on completely different technologies and are marketed differently. Apple being a strong brand comes at a price premium while we wish to cater to the masses. We see a potential simultaneous India-US launch at the end of June.”
Meanwhile as news was announced that the Adam would cost only $325 and would be powered on Google’s Android platform, tech bloggers revealed support. CrunchGear wrote “It just might (sway the Apple faithful away) with the proper support,” whilst a different technical blog expressed “Apple may have widespread interest with its iPad, but the Notion Ink Adam has geek juices flowing.”
