Lack of iPad Flash Explained

Steve Jobs, the chief executive of Apple, has revealed further as to why their latest device, the iPad, is to lack Flash software. Speaking to select industry journalists, Mr Jobs said that the iPad’s battery function would be severely compromised if the popular service was offered.

Whilst Flash is ever popular, and widespread in its use across the internet, Mr Jobs announced that the determining factor in their decision at Apple to leave out the important piece of software was the fact that it was incredibly draining to battery life. After promising a device with a ten hour battery life, he explained that by adding Flash this would plummet to just 1.5hrs.

Reporting the information in the Wall Street Journal, it was revealed that along with floppy drives, FireWire cables and CDs, Flash was the latest piece of software that Apple had decided to do away with, believing it to be old-school technology with no long term use for their products. And in what was another criticism of Flash, Mr Jobs was reported to have said that the format was “buggy”, making it highly likely that the software would never again grace an Apple product, with iPods and iPhones not likely to get any future upgrades.

Meanwhile Kevin Lynch, chief technology officer for Flash expressed that the company was more than willing to cooperate with Apple in an attempt to bring flash to Apple, adding however that “we have not had the required cooperation from Apple to make this happen.”
