Apple has announced the launch date for their much anticipated iPad, revealing that residents in the UK will have to wait almost a month longer than their U.S counterparts. Whilst the $499 device will hit shelves in American on the 3rd April, Apple’s latest technological wonder will not reach British shores until almost May.
The highly speculated gadget was revealed in January, finally putting rumours to rights that Apple was indeed developing a tablet PC. The device, which includes a 9.7 inch touchscreen and comes in both Wi-Fi and 3G variations, could see a new wave in portable computing with functions such as digital reading, internet browsing and multimedia and game playing stepping into the new era.
Revealing the launch dates, which will include shipping to Australia, France, Canada, Germany, Spain, Japan, Italy and Switzerland also at the UK release time, chief executive at Apple Steve Jobs said “The iPad is something completely new. We’re excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.” However, with reports that Foxconn, the iPad manufacturer, are having difficulties producing enough devices to fit U.S demand, it seems the majority of the world will have to wait to experience the fun. And with only the basic version shipping at the end of April, users wanting 3G or Wi-Fi models will have to wait even longer.
