The update for MacBook leaked during the weekend has been officially launched, with Apple stores in the UK offering the new product for £849.

The new MacBook’s features include a 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 250 GB of memory, and 2GB DDR3 RAM.

This laptop, which is £150 cheaper than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, also has an extended battery life of 10 hours, which is a significant advantage compared to its predecessor.

“With the new 13-inch MacBook Apple has pushed the processor up to 2.4GHz from 2.26GHz, but more importantly upgraded the graphics card to the same NVIDIA GeForce 320M that features in the MacBook Pro line-up”, said MacFormat editor Graham Barlow. “The new graphics chipset has a powerful discrete GPU that can intelligently take over graphics processing when required, but power down to save battery life when not. For just £33 more than the previous model that’s not a bad deal in my book”.

This new product also features an Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics. It weighs over 2.1 kilograms and is 274-millimetre thick.

Those who plan to buy can also increase the specifications of the product, with the upgrades such as replacing a 500GB hard-drive and 4GB RAM to the standard features.

So for Mac fans who are searching the market for its new product, then they can check out its website to know which stores in the UK offer the product.

The first figure of Apple iPad sales in the US shows that this new product could well be cannibalising the sales of the humble iPod, another popular product made by the computing giant based in Cupertino, California.

Luckily though, the successful launch sales of Apple’s iPads came as healthy sales of Macintosh products were recorded this year, a recent market data released by the NPD Group showed.

NPD Group’s latest research report shows a 17% drop of iPod sales in April in a year-to-year basis, but an increase of 39% in Mac sales was recorded, compared with figures the same time last month.

While Apple fans in the UK are still waiting for its release, the iPad was already launched in the US on 3 April. Analyst Gene Munster from Piper Jaffray believes that the release of the tablet PC is badly affecting iPod sales, claiming that the data from the NPD Group shows: “The first sign of the degree to which the iPad cannibalises iPod or Mac sales”.

Munster added that: “from the early NPD data, it appears that the iPad has a minimal cannibalization impact on Mac sales, and could be slightly cannibalising iPod sales”.

Whether the iPad will have a significant impact on the sales of laptop or netbook from other manufacturers is still not clear. However, some industry analysts are closely watching those developments.

Apple fans gather at the Moscone Center in San Francisco every year for the MacWorld Expo, all united in this technological pilgrimage.

MacWorld is an International Data Group event, but it is Apple’s show. Until this year, Apple fans could hear a keynote from Apple executives to start the Expo, since the brand has been the centerpiece of the event.

When the company announced last year that it would no longer take part in the event, fans became concerned. It does not only mean that the main vendor would be missed at the Expo, it could also mean the end for the event as the expos in Boston and Paris both disappeared when Apple pulled out.

The Apple community began questioning whether the event in San Francisco could end up with the same fate. Despite the prospect of losing buyers the IDG decided to launch the MacWorld Expo 2010.

There were a few changes on the event like it being moved to a weekend and the center stage, from being occupied by Apple, in past Expo’s, will now be occupied by Mac World.

Securing vendors with big names without the presence of Apple seemed to be tough for IDG. Adobe had already pulled out of the event after 2008 and big companies decided that if Apple was not there, then why should they be? Microsoft became the biggest name in the event, but the booth only had televisions showing antics of its ‘mascots.’

Many vendors, who understand that the Expo was a great opportunity to reach the press, had decided not to participate. Instead, some rented suites at nearby hotels.

It has been suggested that the possible launch of Apple’s next iPhone, the iPhone HD, may have to be delayed due to a legal problem. Whilst the news remains only speculative, some industry experts have suggested that patent infringements regarding the handset’s new screen could mean that the upcoming iPhone update could be halted.

Whilst Apple is already caught in legal affairs due to the recent raid on Gizmodo editor Jason Chen’s computer and information regarding leaked information on the iPhone HD, the latest suggestions could cause a serious problem for Apple. The problem surrounds OLED screens produced by LG which are believed to be incorporated into the latest Apple handsets. Providing the iconic iPhone look, LG have now become embroiled in legal action with AU Optronics (AUO), an Asian screen producer, over possibly infringed screen tech patents from the latter firm.

However, a recent court ruling found that it was in fact LG who had infringed upon AUO’s patents, resulting in AUO now able to seek a legal injunction preventing LG’s OLED screens from being manufactured and used in any products. With possible devastating implications for Apple it could mean the instant halt of their LG relationship, which is estimated to be a $500m deal, with the screen manufacturer having exclusive production rights until 2013. And whilst Apple could take alternate action to secure rights to OLED screens any deviation from their current plans would impact heavily on the their current plans for a summer launch.

After the recent speculated leak of Apple’s latest iPhone model, the iPhone HD, further rumours have been sparked today by the company’s announcement that they will hold their five day World Wide developers conference (WWDC) from June 7th. Held in San Francisco, the annual event has often been the place that Apple has revealed their latest upcoming products, with 2010’s show expected to concentrate on the iPad and the possible release of the iPhone HD.

Whilst a certain level of negative press surrounds Apple at the moment on the back of reported iPad faults and a recent police raid of Jason Chen, editor of website Gizmodo who leaked details of a possible iPhone update to the web, Apple continues to be one the world’s leading technology innovative firm with a huge, global following. And any official details of Apple’s next iPhone move will certainly satisfy many wanting to know of the iconic handsets’ future.

Revealing details of the WWDC, senior vice president of the iPhone software, Scott Forstall, said “This year’s WWDC offers developers in-depth sessions and hands-on working labs to learn more about iPhone OS 4, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. WWDC provides a unique opportunity for developers to work side-by-side with Apple engineers and interface designers to make their iPhone and iPad apps even better.” And with an annual update to the iPhone becoming tradition, it seems more than likely that Apple CEO Steve Jobs will take the opportunity to usher in their newest device.

Apple has become the latest firm to reveal their first quarter profits, announcing a 131per cent increase in their iPhone sales when compared to the same period a year earlier. Whilst this may not surprise many, it cements the firms’ continuing draw of both existing and new custom around the world.

With the iPad and the next version of the iconic iPhone currently at the centre of much worldwide hype, Apple revealed that in the first three months the number of iPhones sold equalled 8.75 million whilst Mac units saw an incredible sale increase which led to the companies best, out-of-holiday quarter ever. And though there has been some criticisms regarding Apple’s tablet PC offering, it hasn’t dampened profit levels which came in at $3.07bn.

Meanwhile, whilst a growing global market was attributed for the incredible growth of Apple’s iPhone, the company remarked that iPod sales had fallen slightly. However, with 10.89 million units still being sold, and 2.9 million Macs sold in the three month period, Apple has more than a little to be happy about.

The news come amidst a continuing media buzz of both iPad and iPhone news. With profits being so strong, they are only likely to gain further ground when the international launch of the iPad, now slated for the end of May, comes into force in addition to the speculated release of Apple’s 4G iPhone.

Rumours have emerged that technologically innovative firm Apple are to release a HD iPhone this coming June. After the release of the original phone on 29th June, 2007, the iPhone has becoming a global phenomenon and something of an iconic gadget of the decade. And now, whilst sales of Apple’s latest device, the tablet PC named the iPad, continue to soar, a Canadian carrier of the iPhone handset has revealed that a new, upgraded model should be coming this summer.

Speaking in a newspaper interview SaskTel’s president and chief executive officer, Robert Watson, accidently hinted that a new Apple device may be on the cards far sooner than many suspected. “The good news is that (Apple) is coming out with a new version of the iPhone in the June time-frame and they’re going to put us on that,” explained Mr Watson to the Leader Post. “So we’re quite excited about that,” he added.

Whilst Apple has reliably launched a newly updated iPhone every summer since the launch of the original, the intense hype surrounding the iPad has drawn a lot of attention away from the company’s mobile handset market. However, with no confirmation from the firm itself, rumours and speculation are gradually building to the promise of a new iPhone HD and iPhone 4G to be released in only a few months time. And with the iPhone phenomenon showing no signs of waning, customers may be able to look forward to a new model with better camera, quicker processor and 4G capabilities sooner than they thought.

It has been revealed by Apple that the international release of their iPad device is to be delayed by a month. Now expected in May, customers will be able to pre-order from May 10th, with the product hitting the shelves at the end of next month.

The announcement comes as a number of glitches hit the highly desired device. With U.S owners reporting problems with connectivity in addition to issues surrounding some machines lack of ability to charge properly the launch of the iPad has been marred slightly. However, Apple said that the delay was purely due to the huge demand noted in America which has resulted in half a million units being sold within the first week. “Demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks,” the innovative company said in a statement.

Meanwhile, though hundreds of people in the U.S continue to complain about faulty iPad’s, Forrester Research analyst Ian Fogg expressed that Apple’s reasons for the delay seemed highly credible. “The iPad is in a new category of devices – for that reason I think it would have been very hard for Apple to have accurately predicted sales before launch. There is a possibility of manufacturing or component problems but it’s more likely that they simply didn’t forecast demand,” he revealed.

Whilst many fans may be disappointed by the news, Pocket-lint’s technology reviewer Stuart Miles added that Apple may well prosper from the delay, explaining “The sales figures show there is an appetite for a touchscreen device, but the longer they leave it the more chance other manufacturers have of getting in on the game.”

Social micro-blogging website Twitter has revealed that they have acquired one of the leading application developers Tweetie. The move means that Apple’s iPhone now has an official Twitter application, causing a certain amount of uncertainty for the future of other third-party developers in Twitter apps.

The possibility of such a move by Twitter has been highly speculated after the success of Tweetie on Apple’s iconic mobile phone. After announcing that they had acquired Atebits, the creator of Tweetie, earlier this month, Twitter have now made the move to having an official application on the world famous iPhone, bringing their software to millions in more than a third-party capacity.

Loren Brichter, an Atebits developer who contributed to the building of the Tweetie application revealed on his personal blog that, post joining Twitter’s official mobile team, he was now in the midst of developing an official Tweetie application for Apple’s iPad. Meanwhile Twitter revealed that Tweetie will be renamed as the Twitter for iPhone in addition to becoming a free download.

Elsewhere, the market began to speculate over the future for third party developers of applications for Twitter. Including Echofan, Twitterific and Tweetdeck a number of industry insiders have speculated that Twitter may make a move to acquire all such parties in a bid to increase their global official reach. Chris Dixon, co-founder of Hunch, meanwhile commented “Wow, weird coincidence! A Twitter board member blogged about killing twitter apps the same week Twitter released/bought 2 clients.”

As more details have surfaced on the range of applications being developed for Apple’s iPad, it has been revealed that, on the whole, the apps for the highly anticipated gadget are set to cost far above the prices seen for the iPhone. And though Apple are determined that iPad applications will prove to be of better quality than their iPhone relatives, a £10 price tag may prove too much to entice consumers.

Recently revealed that Apple was seeking developers to create modern, sleek and quality applications for the iPad, as the imminent launch of the product draws near many are debating over the cost of the additions to the newest tablet machine. And whilst the iPad development came particularly from the ability to custom and utilise an application store, experts are forecasting that extra’s, at least initially, could prove to be highly expensive. With a marketplace unsure of true cost, yet excited about Apple’s newest product, there is some uncertainty over just where cost will level out.

Of course, market cost is largely down to a consumer’s willingness to pay an extravagant fee when individuals have become used to only paying a couple of pounds at most for a high quality iPhone app. However, with a larger and smarter machine, combined with what Apple assure will be groundbreaking, innovative and productive new features, industry insiders expect that prices will be far above those of iPhone apps, with customisation costing more whilst Apple reap the rewards.
